Explaining Murder within United Kingdom Criminal Law
The case of Alice and Ben involves the death of Ben, a man with a history of abusing his wife, Alice. When conditions were appropriate, Ben would use heroin and would physically and verbally assault his wife. After two years of this behavior, Alice, who herself had a substance abuse problem, responded to a particularly vehement promise from Ben that he would come and kill her by taking a kitchen knife and stabbing him twice when he was unconscious after shooting heroin. Alice then retreated from the room and waited a period of time before calling the ambulance to come help Ben, and Ben had died in the process.
