Emergence of Middle Class Society during the Industrial Revolution in England
This essay discusses the development of the English middle class during the Industrial Revolution. A review of literature indicates that several economic predeterminants were present in England. An advanced commercial agricultural base, advances in technology and a transport system were already in place ahead of other countries. The former dominant social characters of landlord, farmer and laborer were replaced by capitalists and factory workers - the middle class - as farmers dwindled in number while the demand for factory hands rose amidst high demands for such commodities as textiles.
