Five Problems in the Changing Economics of Taiwan
There are many interesting facets about the island of Taiwan and one of them is its greatly improved economy over the last four decades. It has achieved one of the highest growth rates in international trade and has sustained that growth rate, for the most part. There are also other factors about Taiwan that are interesting including the family dichotomy. As is the case with most of Asia, the family plays a significant role in the lives of every individual and the identity of the country. However, in the case of Taiwan, a western influence is beginning to spread affecting the nature of gender roles and premarital sex. This, of course, increases the work force as women begin to find non-familial jobs. This changes the dynamics of the work force, even though it doesnt serve as one of the five major factors in Taiwans changing international economic makeup. Still it cannot be overlooked since family is so integral to Taiwanese society. However, there are five factors that currently play a large role in the changing nature of Taiwans economic makeup and those five factors are unregulated loan markets, labor productivity, currency, environmental problems and a decline in the export-import market. In addition to discussing these five factors as potential problems, this essay will take a look at potential solutions for them as well. That being said, this essay will begin with the family and its changing dynamics which do contribute significance to the subsequent changing dynamics within the work force.
