Trends and Issues in Sexuality Topics This 4-page undergraduate paper consists of four one-page papers and an outline. All three of the papers focus on current trends and issues in specific areas of sexuality, and all are written in a format appropriate to be read aloud. The first brief essay outlines some current trends and issues today in terms of gay marriages. This essay argues that the very definition of marriage - a definition being challenged and potentially rewritten - is what most affects the legal and social debates about gay marriage. The essay points out that current legal cases surround the idea of whether it is legal for two individuals of the same sex to marry. Social debates continue about whether gay couples can or should raise children. The second brief essay outlines current trends and issues in birth control, suggesting that monthly injection, a monthly vaginal ring and a weekly transdermal patch are the newest birth control methods for women. While a pill is available for men, most men continue to use condoms. The essay notes that these methods are created in response to a society that is increasingly busy, increasingly demanding safer and more effective contraception, and increasingly concerned about sexual assault. The final essay considers some of the recent trends in treatments for infertility, including in vitro fertilization and medications. The essay notes that surrogate parenting and adoption are increasingly seen as important options for childless couples, although all options create debate and controversy in society.
